“I had a gown in mind when I went to Peggy as I had already browsed and tried on wedding dresses elsewhere. I thought I wanted a glitzy strappy dress with a smooth satin bottom half that was fitted.”
But as we always say - keep an open mind!
“I didn’t go for the dress I thought I would go for! It was quite the opposite.”
The Dress That Stole Her Heart
Instead of the glitzy, fitted style she had imagined, Alicia fell in love with something beautifully understated:
“I went for a long sleeved plain dress style with beading down the side panels. I chose this as the designer was Spanish (I knew it was a great designer) and the material was thick and gorgeous.
It just seemed to suit my body, and the train fell beautifully. I was also conscious of my shoulders and this dress just seemed to complement my neckline more than anything I tried on.
I always remember being told you should stand out in the dress and not the dress standing out on you!”

“When I said yes to the dress I was so excited and nervous! My mum was meant to be with me but she was in Spain, so I FaceTimed her - it was hard to get her opinion over the phone.
But my maid of honour and the shop girls really helped me with my decision and reassured me. I couldn’t wait to get it home, I just knew it was the one!”

Alicia and her partner tied the knot at Thirsk Lodge Barns - a stunning modern barn venue they instantly fell in love with.
“Our wedding was held at Thirsk Lodge Barns - a charming modern barn that we fell in love with the first time we saw it.
We didn’t want to compromise on fun and entertainment for our guests. We tried to imagine how we would feel as a guest and really wanted to ensure everyone was well fed and happy.”
And they truly delivered on that vision:
“This meant we included everything from a magician, to an evening band and even an ice-cream van (top tip - this was cheaper than a cake and was a hit!).
As we focused on this, the styling was minimalistic and we went with neutral tones that matched the vibes of the barn. My flowers included roses, orchid, and pampas.”

Alicia’s Advice for Future Brides
“Advice for future brides is to enjoy all of it and not sweat the small stuff. Easier said than done but what you remember after is the memories you make with the person you marry, and the family and friends you have around you.
If you're like me, the details are important, but focus on getting yourself sorted first - your dress, makeup etc - so you feel amazing and all the smaller things can wait.
No one ever remembers the table favour you got them, but they will remember how much you smiled and enjoyed your day :)”
